The Hermaphrodite Borghese is an ancient statue depicting hermaphrodite asleep on a mattress. This Roman piece, is a copy of a second century Greek original was restored by Bernini in 1619 at the request of the Borghese family after its discovery in Rome in 1608. It was the subject of a number of copies.
