D\u2019autres Atlantes de sa main sont parvenus jusqu\u2019\u00e0 nous.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Giacomo Piazzetta est un sculpteur n\u00e9 au nord de Tr\u00e9vise, rep\u00e9r\u00e9 dans les archives de Venise \u00e0 partir de 1666, date \u00e0 laquelle il entre dans l\u2019atelier de Francesco Pianta (1634-1690). Il a visiblement retenu la le\u00e7on des impressionnantes sculptures en bois de ce dernier (1657-1676), r\u00e9alis\u00e9es pour la Salle du Chapitre de la Scuola Grande di San Rocco de la S\u00e9r\u00e9nissime. La musculature puissante des Atlantes, tout en contrapposto et en tension, mais aussi le soin apport\u00e9 aux plis des v\u00eatements sont tr\u00e8s proches de deux t\u00e9lamons de Piazzetta, conserv\u00e9s depuis 1807 \u00e0 Venise, au sein de la basilique Santi Giovanni e Paolo. La position des pieds et des bras est \u00e9galement identique. Ces sculptures avaient \u00e9t\u00e9, \u00e0 l\u2019origine, command\u00e9es \u00e0 l\u2019artiste pour la Scuola Grande de Santa Maria della Carita. Giacomo Piazzetta s\u2019\u00e9tait fait une sp\u00e9cialit\u00e9 de ce type de sculptures\u00a0: entre 1676 et 1683, il avait d\u00e9j\u00e0 r\u00e9alis\u00e9 des commandes de t\u00e9lamons pour soutenir les biblioth\u00e8ques du monast\u00e8re des fr\u00e8res dominicains Santi Giovanni e Paolo, attenant \u00e0 la basilique cit\u00e9e pr\u00e9c\u00e9demment. En grande partie d\u00e9truites par un incendie, ces sculptures ne subsistent plus aujourd\u2019hui qu\u2019\u00e0 quelques exemplaires conserv\u00e9s \u00e0 la National Gallery d\u2019Ottawa. Sculpt\u00e9e de face, notre paire d\u2019Atlantes a pu \u00e9galement \u00eatre utilis\u00e9e pour soutenir une biblioth\u00e8que ou comme \u00e9l\u00e9ment d\u2019architecture autonome. Provenant d\u2019une collection priv\u00e9e fran\u00e7aise, la paire est reproduite dans Storia dell\u2019arte in Italia, la scultura del Seicento par Antonia Nava-Cellini, paru \u00e0 Turin en 1982 (pages\u00a0194-197).<\/p>\n<p>MARDI 14 D\u00c9CEMBRE, MONTE-CARLO.
